Lana Del Rey – Born to Die (Ghosts of Paraguay Remix)

Pop and dance music this year has been really disappointing in my opinion. (Seriously, what else is there besides “Get Lucky?”) So lately I’ve been listening to dubstep and house remixes of stuff from 2010-2012.

Favorite Lana Del Rey remix so far:

It has less hits than some of the other remixes, so I thought I would give it a plug. (Even though I’m not sure it counts as dubstep.)

Louis CK Promotes Tig Notaro

October 6, 2012 2 comments

I got this super depressing e-mail from Louis CK.

Here’s an excerpt:

Tig is a friend of mine and she is very funny.  I love her voice on stage.  One night I was performing at a club in LA called Largo.  Tig was there.  She was about to go on stage.  I hadn’t seen Tig in about a year and I said how are you?  She replied “well I found out today that I have cancer in both breasts and that it has likely spread to my lymph nodes.  My doctor says it looks real bad. “. She wasn’t kidding.  I said “uh.  Jesus.  Tig.    Well.  Do you… Have your family… Helping?”.  She said “well my mom was with me but a few weeks ago she fell down, hit her head and she died”.  She still wasn’t kidding…

A few days later, I wrote Tig and asked her if I could release this set on my site.  I wanted people to hear what I saw.  What we all saw that night.  She agreed.  The show is on sale for the same 5 dollars I charge for my stuff.  I’m only keeping 1.  She gets the other 4.  Tig has decided to give some of that to cancer research.

Buy the audio set for $5 here:

I never heard of her before but she actually is really funny. And you can fight cancer at the same time.

Mike from Breaking Bad in 1974 Educational Menstruation Video

September 9, 2012 Leave a comment

Jonathan Banks, better known as Mike the Hitman from Breaking Bad, plays an awkward teenage boy in this sometimes creepy and sometimes sexist period PSA from almost 40 years ago.

^screenshot creepy doctor, not Mike.

“I got my first period today.”

“So what’s the big deal?”

“It means that blood is flowing out of my uterus!”

“Oh.” Mike looks confused and disgusted.

Later, when swimming plans go awry do to a thunderstorm, Johnny (Mike) asks his girlfriend with all earnestness (10:16), “Do you think your period could be causing the rain?”

Hilarious video. Ah, high school in the 70s. Ah, Mike from Breaking Bad.

Fun fact:  Aaron Paul, otherwise known as Jesse Pinkman, was cast as that rebellious punk kid in 90s cereal commercials.

1. Nate Silver is showing a significant bump  for the Democrat’s after the DNC, much higher than the RNC’s bump.
Electoral Vote Prediction
Barack Obama

314.2

+10.4 since Aug. 31
Mitt Romney

223.8

-10.4 since Aug. 31
2. The DNC also tied for ratings with “Honey Boo Boo Child” while the RNC was below the ratings for their week.
3. Buzzfeed posts a list of newspaper headlines in Swing States, showing positive reaction to Barack’s speech.
4.

Personally, I thought Jennifer Granholm’s speech was the best. She was one of the more rousing and animated speakers of the night.
5. Factcheck.org had to aggregate their analysis of Obama’s and Biden’s speeches, because apparently they each didn’t have enough exaggerations and out-of-context quotes to warrant posts of their own. (Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney each had their own posts from the RNC previously on factcheck.org)
6. As promised, song for Friday. This is seriously the best Gangnam Style mash-up I’ve seen yet:

Jersey Shore Cancelled After 6 Season

August 30, 2012 2 comments

Oh the tragedy.

New Jersey’s favorite dying newspaper, The Star Ledger, has more.

Don’t worry; I’m sure in a year someone will offer Snooki and her baby their own reality TV show. He can be the Honey Boo Boo Child of the Shore.

Considering how long I lived in New Jersey, I’m still a little disappointed I never visited the bar in Seaside Heights where Snooki got punched.
