Clantily Scad’s Prediction For President 2016. (Made in 2013.)
I know it’s really early, but I’d rather look super impressive and have bragging rights three years later or shrug and say the signs were misleading.
I called Paul Ryan for Romney’s VP on this blog long before his stock jumped on Intrade and long after most people were talking up Marco Rubio. I was briefly a political science major, so I know the basics, but I’ve also canvassed for the Democrats and think I have a pretty decent sense of people’s motivations.
I honestly believe that there’s going to be an epic Chris Christie versus Cory Booker showdown for President in 2016. I think it will be tight but I bet Cory Booker will win.
Other major players in the Republican GOP primary are going to be Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal. Rand Paul will be around, but mostly serve as the libertarian placeholder for his dad. Rubio will be second banana to Christie, but will not be able to surpass Christie’s aggressiveness.
Other major players in the Democratic primary are going to be Elizabeth Warren and maybe Kirsten Gillibrand. (I’m a New Yorker now, so I’m now more familiar with Gillibrand.) I wish Michelle Obama was running too, because she is super smart and super fly, but she doesn’t seem to be interested in heading that way. It’s still nice to see the progressive ladies coming out into the spotlight to grab the torch from Hillary Clinton.
I do not think Hillary is going to run. Right now, this is not a popular opinion among the liberal wonks, but I’ve been thinking it for a while.
She’s tired of the infighting and made statements about how tired she is in the past. I know politicians can backtrack on their statements. But I’m really getting the sense that she just wants to chill for a while and focus her ambitions on knitting and enjoying retirement. Which is totally reasonable; she’s 65 now.
Nate Silver sounds like he’s leaning the same way with me on the Hillary Prediction: “She doesn’t really like the campaign all that much.”

Anyway, I’ve written briefly before about how much of a badass Cory Booker is of a candidate. He’s relatively young for Presidential ambitions, but so was an inexperienced Senator named Barack Obama. I think Cory Booker will be great.
Now that Intrade is done, does anyone know where I can legally profit from my political acumen?

Hot Blogging Community: Twenty Something Bloggers
20SomethingBloggers
@20SB
Since my freelance gig went under, and so did the community that followed it, I’ve been looking for ways to connect with other writers who also hustle for page hits.
Recently, I discovered SB20. They seem to fit the bill for a social networking platform that meets my needs as an online writer.

My only criticism so far is that they can’t figure out if they want to stylize it to Twenty Something Bloggers or 20 Something Bloggers. I want to know for consistency purposes! Oh wait, there’s a forum for that question 🙂
I think this site has a lot of potential, but has a small enough community where you can still be able to interact with people on a fun and manageable scale. It’s a great idea and was executed beautifully; they have integrated lots of cool social networking features like chat, while keeping it simple. I would encourage other bloggers to join.
Hat Tip to Short Stories and Sustenance for hipping me to this site.

I Bought a Domain. What Now? Some Backstory Behind Clantily Scad.
As of this week, I own the domain name ClantilyScad.com. Anything scandalousmuffin.wordpress.com will redirect there. I love WordPress’s simple yet highly functional interface for blogging and I hope they continue being awesome.
I also played with the sub-header. It was formerly “Dyslexistentialist Musings of a Misanthropic Twat.” Now it’s “Dyslexistentalist Commentary of the Culturally Incorrect Kind.” [edit: made it even shorter] The truth is, albeit a being a pessimist with a penchant for sarcasm on the internet, I’m actually really a nice person and no one’s ever actually called me a twat.
Does having a domain name give me more legitimacy as a blogger? No, not really. Some of the best blogs I read have URLs that are dot wordpress or dot blogspot. But domain registration and mapping is pretty cheap these days, and I wanted to claim the eponymous URL before someone else did.
About the Name of the Blog.
Scantily Clad -> Clantily Scad is an example of metathesis, the reversal of consonant sounds in adjacent words.
Dyslexic + Existentialist = Dyslexistentialist is an example of portmanteau, the melding of two words, sound and meaning, into one. It’s a reference to my disorganized writing style and penchant for struggling with the meaning of the everything.
I can’t claim credit for the title. Back in 2008, when I wanted to start a non-autobiographical blog, I asked my friends on Livejournal what it should be named. My friend Sara suggested “Clantily Scad.” I liked the title and so it was. This was my first post ever.
Why is Everything is Sexual Innuendo with You?
I don’t think scantily scad/clantily scad is a necessarily sexual. Or everything is sexual. I don’t know; it’s probably the latter. Freud.
My internet handle, scandalousmuffin, is old. A combination of a couple nicknames from high school. I don’t really like it anymore, but I can assure you, it was not meant as a reference to vagina.
A big search term that people try to find my site is “scad porn.” These people are stupid. “Scad porn” is not a thing. They’re probably thinking of scat porn, because nothing says true love like being covered in human feces. Sorry to disappoint, pervs.
What Now?
One of the things I’ve been struggling with is what direction I should take with the blog.
I recognize that I don’t have a consistent theme or style. This is probably the primary reason I don’t have a lot subscribers despite certain posts garnering a lot of attention and comments. Some posts are fluffy and others are highly technical. Some are for pure amusement and others tackle serious issues. Some are satirical and others couldn’t be more concrete. Some are simply re-blogs of popular columnists I’m into at the moment and others are autobiographical essays.
Since I was all Freudian earlier, I think I should mention that one things I’ve been thinking of writing more on, but feel would be out of place on the blog is sex. The issue is that I feel like the overlap of people that want to read about Kink and Keynesian Economics in the same blog consists of just me.
It’s evolving. I’ll figure out. I’ll never stop writing.
And to my subscribers/bookmarkers/online stalkers, here’s a picture that I didn’t make but it still applies to you:

People Who Hate Me
I am at a level of blog popularity where I’ve started to have strangers getting angry and putting thought and effort into vitriolic comments. It’s adorable. I’ll add to this list as needed.
People who hate me:
–Socialist Feminists (This is not a caricature.)
–People who miss Amy Winehouse
-Kids who worked for Cutco more than a week
–Adolescents with no conception of healthy relationships and Sad Adults who also read Twilight
—-
If you also hate me, let me know, so I can add you to the list.
The full title of my subheader used to be “socioculturalpolitically incorrect commentary from a misanthropic twat.”
Some of the inspiration for behind the “misanthropic twat” persona that used to be the standard voice of my blog is Maddox. He is the original unabashed Internet asshole. And he became massively famously for it. He’s probably wealthy too if his royalties for Alphabet of Manliness are as big as his balls.
I’m aiming for Maddox’s lack of shame with a writing style sprinkled with bits of Ze Frank’s smiles and Mark Morford’s political acumen. When I start getting hate-mail like Mark Morford, I’ll know I’ve made it big:
Banned from Reddit, Reddit’s arbitrary self-promotion rule

So I linked to my own blog, different articles, on Reddit twice. There is no rule explicitly against this practice. But I was banned anyway.
The rule clearly states:
”Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). If that’s all you ever post, and it always seems to get voted down instantly, take a good hard look in the mirror — you just might be a spammer.”
Within reason. They really need to create a specific quantitative guideline (1 self-promotion per week) otherwise its just arbitrary who they or the “report” button says they can ban. My account is relatively new. I don’t link to a lot of other stuff because, most popular links are already up, and they don’t do duplicate links. The few comments I have posted have been well thought-out and insightful.
I’m not the only person to complain about this issue in particular and being “silently banned” by IP address:

http://www.stochasticgeometry.ie/2010/03/09/silently-banned-reddit/
FormerRedditUser
This happens all the time with Reddit. Rather than outright ban users, they mute them without any indication. The muting is done by IP address, but the ability to see your own comments is done by user name. Ostensibly this is to fight spam (like a honeypot), but there are indications that it can be invoked automatically with the report button — apparently the oversight on report is intermittent, and the user is frequently just muted until an admin looks into it. An associate of mine pointed otut that this has the convenient side effect of maintaining the user’s ad impressions without allowing them a voice.
If you have a reddit account that you don’t care about getting IP banned on (like a work computer), reddit this shit, and the other links I posted to.
I’m sticking to StumbleUpon from now on.
